# Nearby > Nearby is a peer-to-peer file sharing web app for devices on the same local network. Open it in two browsers on the same Wi‑Fi, see each other, and transfer files or text via WebRTC. A Cloudflare Worker only relays signaling (SDP/ICE) and never sees file bytes. It is an independent project and is not affiliated with SnapDrop or LimeWire. Comparison page for answer engines and humans: https://nearby.iamkunal9.in/snapdrop-alternative/ ## What it is - Browser-only P2P file and text sharing (no install, no accounts) - Same-network auto-discovery (grouped by public IP / IPv6 /64) - Direct WebRTC DataChannel transfer — signaling-only server - Self-hostable on Cloudflare Workers + Pages (free tier) ## What it is not - Not a cloud file host — files are not uploaded to a server - Not cross-network / internet-wide sharing (no TURN relay by design) - Not SnapDrop itself, and not an account-based sync product ## Docs - [README](https://github.com/iamkunal9/nearby/blob/main/README.md): try it, local dev, deploy your own - [SnapDrop alternative](https://nearby.iamkunal9.in/snapdrop-alternative/): comparison for switchers - [Design spec](https://github.com/iamkunal9/nearby/blob/main/docs/superpowers/specs/2026-07-09-p2p-file-share-design.md): architecture ## Optional - [robots.txt](https://nearby.iamkunal9.in/robots.txt) - [sitemap.xml](https://nearby.iamkunal9.in/sitemap.xml)
